Meet Gillian Newens
I’m Gillian Newens, though most people call me Gill. I’m a psychological thriller author based in North Wales, where familiar places often find their way into my fiction.
I work part time in a sweet shop in Betws-y-Coed. Away from the shop, I write about people trying to understand what has happened to them, who they can trust and what might be hidden in the parts of their lives they thought they knew.
Why North Wales?
Living here gives me a strong connection to the places I write about. A pier, a train journey or a path beside a river can feel familiar and reassuring. Put someone there with a reason to be afraid, and the same place can begin to feel very different.
My Forty-Five Minute series follows a connected story across North Wales, beginning with Kate’s return to Llandudno Pier. From there, the mystery moves into Snowdonia, Betws-y-Coed and Colwyn Bay.
The stories I write
I am drawn to questions of memory and trust. What happens when someone remembers something differently? How long can a secret shape a life before it begins to come to light?
Those questions run through my books. The people in them have relationships, routines and histories that matter to them, which makes the danger personal when something starts to go wrong.
Where to begin
If you enjoy following the same characters through an unfolding mystery, start with Forty-Five Minutes on Llandudno Pier and follow the series reading order. For a standalone story, take a look at The Scare Trail or The River Remembers.
